A Constant Velocity Joint or CV Axle Joint is an important component of the drive train. The CV joint is packed with grease and protected by the CV boot. CV Axles are part of front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles. On four-wheel-drive vehicles they are called half-shafts.

What Is a CV Boot?
Each CV Axles has two CV boots. The boot protects both the inner and outer portions of the CV joint. The inner CV joint controls changes in suspension and ride height. The outer one provides even torque transfer.
When the CV boot is ripped or cracked, the lubricant inside will leakout, mix with dirt, and damage the CV joint.
